Grow your own Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) mushrooms at home!
Fully colonized nutritionally supplemented hardwood sawdust growing blocks are ready to fruit after some seemingly ridiculous but very easy-to-perform actions (cold shocking, dunking, and the infamous block slap!). Shiitake is picky and not as forgiving as the oyster mushroom family, but it's oh-so-rewarding when you finally see those yummy fruits.
Simple instructions can be found in our How Do I...? education section. IMPORTANT! Don't start your Shiitake block until it has formed its brown crust, like you see in the product photo. If you start before it has ripened, it is unlikely to fruit. If you're unsure whether your block is ready, shoot us a photo and we'll let you know :).
